Reporting Outages

Follow these easy steps before calling to report there is no power at your home.Check fuse box and breaker box in an outage

  1. Check fuses and circuit breakers in the house and at the pole. 

  2. If the power does not come back on after blown fuses are changed, and the breakers seem to be functioning, please go to the next step. Remember in situations where only part of your property has power, the problems are usually caused by a blown fuse or tripped breaker.

  3. Check the face of your meter. If you find that the meter is blank and there is no problem within your electrical system, report your outage.

  4. Check with the neighbors to see if they are out of power. This helps both you and the cooperative determine the extent of an outage. If you know your neighbors are out of power, call in both 911 addresses, yours and your neighbors to minimize the volume of calls coming into the office during a major storm.

  5. Disconnect electronic equipment to prevent damage. Also turn off washers, dryers, air conditioners, and dishwashers. If larger appliances start up all at once when power is restored, they may overload circuits and damage the appliances. Leave a single lamp or radio turned on to alert you that power has been restored. Turn appliances on one at a time.

  6. Call T.I.P. Rural Electric Cooperative to report the outage at 800-934-7976. Please have your 911 address or account number available to help in correctly identifying the physical location of the outage. As soon as the outage call is received, lineman are dispatched to investigate the cause and to quickly restore power.
